Kitsap Lake Elementary Safe Routes to School

Project Status and Schedule (Updated April 17, 2018)

The project is scheduled to be designed in 2018 and constructed during 2019. The City has selected the engineering firm Parametrix to design the project. Survey of the project area is almost complete.  Survey Work included gathering data, over the course of several weeks, along Harlow Drive from Kitsap Way to Osprey Circle, at Kitsap Lake Elementary, and for a few drainage courses near the project area. The first public meeting is tentatively scheduled for early June with a second meeting to come in the late fall/early winter. These meetings are intended to present design findings and gather input from the community. Meetings will be announced via the City’s website, City social media, and the project’s email list. Be sure to sign up for emails if you would like to stay updated on the progress of this project.

Project Overview

In June 2017, the City received a $1,750,000 Safe Routes to School Grant to install a sidewalk along Harlow Drive from Kitsap Way to Osprey Circle. In addition to the sidewalks, lighting, school speed zone signs, and crosswalk treatments will be installed. The new sidewalk will provide a safe route for children to walk to Kitsap Lake Elementary and vastly improve the walkability of the Kitsap Lake neighborhood.

Public Meetings

The City of Bremerton Public Works and Utilities introduced its 2018 construction program at a community meeting on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. The Kitsap Lake Safe Routes to School project was discussed.

The next public meeting will be a project specific meeting and is planned for summer 2018. Check back soon for more information.
