Parking Study Open House

Wednesday, May 24, 2017

The City of Bremerton is excited to announce an OPEN HOUSE has been scheduled for May 24, 2017, 6pm-8pm for the public to comment on the findings and recommendations from the Parking Study conducted by BERK Consulting.

The Open House will take place in the first floor chambers of the Norm Dicks Government Center. A presentation by Project Manager Jeff Arango of BERK Consulting will begin at 6pm with questions and answers afterwards. Comment cards will be available for the public to make comments on the draft report.

The city operates a parking system consisting of on street parking, surface lots and three parking garages.  In addition to the demand from residents and businesses, the demand for parking in the downtown core and surrounding neighborhoods is heavily impacted by employees of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (the area’s largest employer), ferry commuters to Seattle via the Washington State ferry terminal, and students attending Olympic College. A projected increase in density in the downtown core may also contribute to an increase in demand for parking in the near future.

Parking has been a concern of the City since 1919 when parking complaints were first recorded in minutes. This is the first comprehensive parking study commissioned by the City. BERK has collected, compiled and analyzed data in five areas: supply, demand, policy, financial and ordinance.

The final report, with findings and recommendations, will be presented to Council in June or July 2017.

For more information on the study please contact City Clerk, Shannon Corin, at 360-473-5323 or City.Clerk@ci.bremerton.wa.us.
