District 4 Community Meeting

Saturday, May 11, 2019

Council Member Lori Wheat will be hosting a District 4 Community Meeting on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the First Christian Church of Bremerton located at 811 Veneta Avenue. The church is ADA accessible.

Dianne Iverson and Paul Dutky of the West Sound Cycling Club have been invited to discuss the following:

The City of Bremerton was awarded competitive grants to resurface parts of 6th Street in 2020, with community input in 2019. Community members have expressed concern about cyclist and pedestrian safety, in relation to how the current 6th Street design divides, rather than brings together, the neighborhood. Should the City take advantage of this unique opportunity, as part of the 6th Street resurfacing project, to make 6th Street safer for everyone by converting a four car-lane road to three car-lanes and two bike-lanes?
  • How would a four car-lane to three car-lane road conversion affect driving times?
  • How would pedestrian, bicycle, and driver safety improve?
  • Is there an economic, livability advantage to redesigning 6th Street in this way?
