Message from Mayor Wheeler

Proposed Park Avenue Pocket Park

You spoke and I heard you. The permanent closure of Park Avenue from Burwell Street north one-half block for a “Pocket Park” was proposed to me by my staff based on comments they received during the Burwell Tunnel re-construction that began in 2017. Based on the input received from both the survey and from those that attended the public meeting, it is clear that the proposed pocket park does not have sufficient support at this time, and so I will not be moving this initiative forward. As Mayor, I am always open to considering ideas to improve the lives of our citizens and the economic vitality of the City, and I firmly believe the first step in any process is to engage the community and gather input. I want to thank everyone who took the time to provide their input and look forward to continuing to work with you all as we move Bremerton forward together.
