Kitsap Transit Plans Sunday Service Restoration, On-Demand Bus Service for Bremerton
Bremerton would have Sunday service restored beginning August 2023
Mayor Wheeler is proud to announce that Kitsap Transit has unveiled plans to restore Sunday service in Bremerton, which includes adding on-demand scheduling for the first-time for City residents. Under the proposal, Bremerton would be first in line to have Sunday service restored beginning in August 2023. Kitsap Transit would also resume Sunday service in other communities – Port Orchard, Poulsbo and Bainbridge – in later phases through 2024.
The proposal includes adding Sunday service between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Route 217 between Bremerton and Silverdale – with buses on the route running every half-hour. Bremerton residents would have first-ever on-demand service on Sundays and would be able to schedule their bus trips through a mobile app or a call center under the plan. “The proposed transit changes and restoration of Sunday service in Bremerton is exciting news,” said Mayor Greg Wheeler. “Our population is highly dependent on transit for their livelihoods and standard of living. They rely on transit to commute for work, reach medical appointments, get to church services and connect with essential programs in Bremerton and beyond. Restoring Sunday service first in our City and providing on-demand scheduling is a critical step to increasing transit equity for our community.”
Mayor Wheeler has been working together with Kitsap Transit leadership and the Kitsap Transit Board to make transit improvements and restore Sunday service for Bremerton residents. Bringing back Sunday service has been a major priority for Mayor Wheeler since his first term began in 2018 and has been included in his annual Mayor’s Initiatives for the City. “I have appreciated working with Kitsap Transit and Transit Board members and am grateful for their commitment to increasing capacity and accessibility for our residents. I look forward to continuing to partner with Kitsap Transit to expand transit equity in the City of Bremerton,” said Mayor Wheeler.
