New City Attorney Named for City of Bremerton

Kylie Finnell has been selected as the City of Bremerton’s new City Attorney. Finnell has practiced law in Kitsap County for over 16 years in the public sector and in private practice and has been advising and representing the City of Bremerton for the last five years. From 2016 to 2019, she worked as the Assistant City Attorney for the City of Bremerton representing the City in civil litigation, administrative hearings, criminal appeals, and advising the Mayor, City Council, and all departments of the city on the interpretation of state, local and federal law, and reduction of liability exposure.  In 2019, Finnell went into private practice with the Kitsap Law Group in Silverdale where she has continued to represent the City of Bremerton in Kitsap County Superior Court, the Court of Appeals, and the Washington Supreme Court.

Finnell started her career as an associate attorney in private practice doing personal injury and criminal defense (2004-2010); served under contract as the primary public defender in Port Orchard Municipal Court (2010-2013); and worked as city clerk, risk manager and prosecutor for the City of Poulsbo (2014-2016). She has also served as a pro tem judge in Bremerton Municipal Court from 2008 to the present on an as needed basis.

As City Attorney, Finnell will provide legal oversight on matters affecting Bremerton and will oversee the City’s civil and prosecution divisions, the city clerk, risk management, and human resources.

Finnell holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and her Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center.

“Kylie Finnell represents excellence and is an ideal fit for the City of Bremerton,” said Mayor Greg Wheeler. “I’m confident her extensive experience, institutional knowledge and her loyalty to the City will make her an outstanding City Attorney for Bremerton.”
