Support for Temporary Expansion of Kitsap Transit Fast Ferry to Fill Local State Ferry Gap Builds Steam
On September 16, Mayor Greg Wheeler sent a letter to state Governor Jay Inslee requesting state support to help backfill significant service cuts by the Washington State Ferry (WSF) on the Bremerton-Seattle route. Additional funding from the state would temporarily expand Kitsap Transit fast ferry service on the route, reducing the hardship on residents that depend on local ferry service for work, medical appointments, commerce and other essential trips.
Local mayors, county commissioners, state legislators, trade unions, and business and community leaders have supported Mayor Wheeler’s initial request for short-term fast ferry expansion by Kitsap Transit. Please see the links below to read the letters sent to the Governor.
Mayor Wheeler is continuing to gather further support for the effort.
